The Catalan version of GIRLS LIKE THAT premiered at the SALA VERSUS GLÒRIES in Barcelona in May 2022, receiving excellent reviews. It was later nominated for Best Small-Scale Production at the 2022 PREMIS BUTACA. Since then, it has been touring Catalonia.

The project was conceived with the aim of reaching a wide range of audiences, but specifically targeting school audiences (particularly secondary school students), where it can have a stronger impact. A teaching proposal with workshops and a guide for educators was designed to facilitate the implementation of these workshops in the classroom. Performances for young audiences with post-show discussions have been held in Barcelona (Tantarantana), Palafrugell, Cornellà, Sant Cugat, Sant Llorenç de Moruny, Manresa, Cardedeu, Sant Boi, El Morell, and Navàs.

After the performance, a discussion with the company takes place, providing an opportunity for debate, sharing viewpoints, addressing questions, and engaging with the artistic team.

A dossier with a teaching guide is offered so that educators can implement awareness workshops related to the themes of the play, developed using non-formal education methodology, which can be carried out before and after viewing the play. The workshops can be contracted or conducted in the classroom using the downloadable teaching guide.

The Càlam Company is working to bring the play to more schools across Catalonia.

Themes covered by the play:

  • Gender discrimination, fostering critical debates among young people.
  • Breaking taboos around gender stereotypes and reflecting on "slut-shaming" (sexual stigmatization).
  • Approaching (cyber)bullying from an unconventional perspective by emphasizing the empowerment of the victim.
  • Providing a stark portrayal of how exclusion dynamics work when a group, for any reason, seeks to distance itself from one of its members. Collective pressure silences doubts and punishes dissent.
  • Examining the impact of the digital world on how young people relate to each other and shape their identities.

The play blends genres such as drama, comedy, and musical theatre, featuring songs by Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Bomba Estéreo, and Nathy Peluso.

Evan Placey presents a new generation of girls who have benefited from feminist struggles but are trapped in an image where women must be objects of desire without transgressing the rules imposed by the traditional patriarchal gaze.
