October 25th, 26th and 27th, 2023, PDA Bullying attended as speakers at the World Anti-Bullying Forum that took place in North Carolina, USA.

ABOUT WORLD ANTI-BULLYING FORUM

World Anti-Bullying Forum (WABF) is an international forum and biennial conference focused on understanding and preventing bullying, cyberbullying, and other forms of interpersonal violence against children and young people. The World Anti-Bullying Forum is a meeting place for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in the work against bullying.

Almost 600 delegates from more than 30 countries attended the WABF23, the 4th WABF. Attendees include school administrators, scholars, social media representatives, governmental policymakers, community leaders, and other youth-serving practitioners, and come from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds – including education, social work, computer science, information technology, nursing, pediatrics, adolescent development, psychology, psychiatry, and counseling.

 

The forum was organized by Dr. Dorothy Espelage, and co-emceed by Dr.Sameer Hinduja. The Organizing Partners were the Swedish NGO Friends, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the University of North Carolina School of Education (UNC), and the Presenting Sponsor BRP.  

The forum also featured special guests such as Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, UNESCO Program Officer Yongfeng  Liu, and the Dean of UNC’s School of Education,Dr. Fouad Abd-El-Khalick.

 

The aims of the World Anti-Bullying Forum are:

  • To address and prevent bullying and other forms of violence among children in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and Agenda 2030. 
  • To facilitate the sharing of knowledge and best practices among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners on preventing bullying among children. 
  • To gather, coordinate, and make research based knowledge on preventing bullying among children easily accessible globally and digitally

PDA BULLYING KNOWLEDGE SHARING IN WABF

Good practices in Prevention, Detection and Action in a bullying situation: Study of the situation in Catalonia and its practical application at the community level - Oral presentation (15 minutes)

The objective is:

  1. Give visibility to the welfare work that is being done in Catalan schools in relation to good practices and in the response to the appearance of a case (Study of Good Practices in Catalonia and example of municipal network of Castell-Platja d’Aro i S’Agaró.
  2. Provide tools to the administrations, as well as to the schools and families, to improve the approach to bullying and cyberbullying from strategies of coexistence and also from the response protocols.
  3. To make known PDA Certification in Good Practices

 

Conclusion of our presentation:

  • Networking among all members of the teaching team, families and external professionals is key.
    • The approach from a community and educational level, requires networking between municipalities, educational centers, police, training sports professionals, families, students, and professionals from different fields of social welfare, childhood, youth, etc.). Moreover, it is necessary to emphasize the recognition of the good practices implemented, as well as to make visible and disseminate the advances and achievements in the eradication of violence.
    • PDA Bullying work is not only aimed at educational centers, but also intends to create a network, a Code of Good Practices, a Community Approach…

Promoting actions to improve the well-being of children and youth is a shared responsibility that must be promoted by the public authorities, the educational community, families and the children and adolescents themselves. To this effect, responding to bullying from a perspective of child’s rights requires collaborative work to move towards the sustainable development goals of the 2030 agenda that guarantee a violence-free.
